BIO
BIO
I am Eva Svaneblom (she/her) born 1987 a freelance dance artist from northern Sweden, with Tornedalian background and currently based in Tromsø, Norway. I work both with my own creations as well as dancing, performing and co-creating in other artists work.
I have a dance education from Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich, Germany and a masters degree in Contemporary Performative Arts from Gothenburg University, Sweden.
As a dance artist I am interested in the situated body. The body that “becomes” by its environment. This can be something as banal as a body moving differently through a snow storm than in an evening sun filled living room. More subtly it can be about how ones own body tells stories about the relation to gender identity, sexuality, sociocultural background etc. I work a lot on social media and a red thread in my work is one of community and collectivity, even if I made a lot of solo work the past few years. I often play with stereotypes as my muses and my works are usually created with a fairly big portion of DIY-aesthetics.
The past years I have made several works site specifically for social media platforms, such as YouTube and TikTok. The knowledge I gained through exploring social media as a venue has led me to also manage social media for other choreographers and their projects.
Since 2019 I have had the interest in and started exploring curating as part of my extended artistic practice. 2021-2024 I was head of the programming committee for the performing arts festival Vårscenefest, Tromsø where I got to develop this part of my art practice.

The performance is part of the Umbrella project “I did it myself”

Wiggling Things (2023)
The dance performance ”Wiggling Things” unfolds in an artificial arctic landscape. Choreographic pendulum movements are connected to turbulent flows, vulnerable topography and barren conditions inside and outside of bodies. Temporary in-betweens are established from vanishing sites. The oscillation and swinging is put into dialogue with raging streams and a wood chipper machine—in pace with the expansion of miles wide clear-cut forest areas and mining landscapes in Sápmi and Tornedalen. The pendulum and the shakes are said to possess curative powers. Can the energy emerging from the in-between become a site to find power?

Barefoot on the snow crust
Silence spread, and someone asks: “how deep down do I own the land?”

Other Tongue(2022)
Other Tongue has lost its voice. Or rather its language.
As a consequence of Swedish assimilation politics, Meänkieli, Kveeni and Sami languages were literally beaten out of vocal cords. Swedish and Norwegian were the languages to be spoken. Punishments awaited those who spoke their mother tongue.
Generations later, dance artists Eva Svaneblom and Tanja Andersson wonder what the choreography of the vocal apparatus would have looked like if the languages had been allowed to stay in the body.
With smartphones and portable speakers, soundscapes and physical phrases are etched as the dancers navigate through linguistic thickets and the anatomy of the vocal apparatus.
